Someone at Google decided it would be a good design to automatically add any text messages from my phone into my Google Voice account without my consent. It's similar to how Facebook recently changed their privacy settings and made the default option "show everybody" as opposed to "keep my old settings." If someone swipes someone else's phone, that's the security issue, not that GV was smart enough to save you a copy when it linked the actual phone number you gave it to connect to your actual phone.
